Press Articles :: Portrait of an Artist - Around 505 Magazine - Winter 2008

Name: David Michael Kennedyaround5051.jpg

Artistic Medium (or media): Photography - palladium printing.

Southwest Connection: I arrived in New Mexico in 1984. My son had just turned 2 and I was burnt out on New York City and the commercial world. I took a three-month road trip seeking out a new home and when I arrived in New Mexico, I knew I was home.

What do you consider your biggest accomplishment: My son, Jesse William Kennedy, graduating from Naropa University and his amazing writing, art and work in 8mm film.

What do others consider your biggest accomplishment: I will take a survey and get back to you on that.

Favorite artist - Why: Irving Penn, for his amazing ability to reach into someone's soul, his design, use of light and his printing techniques; and Albert Watson for his style.

Your biggest inspiration: The spirit of the landscape and the People of the Southwest, Tatanka and my dog Henry, not necessarily in that order.

If I wasn’t an artist, I’d probably be: Dead.
